JustPhysio has a great opportunity for a physiotherapist to work in a long term neuro rehab unit based in Hertfordshire The home provides residential care for patients with neurological conditions who require rehabilitation. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to make a difference developing the services and be a part of an expanding service.
Our client is a care home that supports people living with acquired brain injuries and older adults who require the reassurance of a calm, patient nursing team on hand at all times.
You will be required to provide a high standard of specialist assessment and treatment of the service users who may have complex presentations and challenging behaviour.
Summary of the role:
To work alongside the other therapists in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the physiotherapist service provided to service users with complex neurological conditions as well as contributing to the treatment and care of service users with respiratory diagnoses
To work autonomously in undertaking comprehensive and holistic assessment's and treatments of service users .
To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team through planning, implementing and evaluating service user's care.
To play a part in the delivery of training and advice to therapy colleagues and the nursing/care team
To be a part of the out-reach service to other care homes within corporate group if required
To undertake a comprehensive assessment of service users, including those with diverse or complex presentations, using clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an effective treatment plan.
To use specialist neuro handling skills and to use evidence based treatments.
To decide priorities for own work area, balancing other resident related and professional demands and ensure that this remain in accordance with those of the service as a whole.
To professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspect of own clinical practice and to be accountable for the work delegated to physiotherapy assistants or carers.
To be closely involved in the Outreach Service provided by the Regional Hyper Acute Rehabilitation Unit (RHRU) from Northwick Park Hospital. This involves following up on recommendations made by the RHRU team and providing feedback on their return visits.
To use reflective practice and establish outcome measures to evaluate treatment in order to archive optimal service user outcomes.
To provide advice on specialist physiotherapy care and treatment for service user with neurological problems based on theoretical knowledge, evidence from research and relevant practice experience.
To manage risk with FCV including during treatment sessions.
To report all complains, accidents and near miss to the Physiotherapy Manager and to document appropriately.
To organise referrals to other health disciplines as required.
To work in an environment where the work patterns may be disrupted e.g. by unplanned queries from service user of staff and urgent phone calls.
To ensure professional guidelines and standards from Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and national guidelines are followed.
To carry out assessments and treatments of service users with a variety of conditions requiring moderate to intense physical effort on a daily basis.
Regular exposure to unpleasant working conditions e.g. contact with body fluids (sputum, blood, faeces and urine) and aggressive behaviour of residents (verbal and occasional physical).
To manage situations where a service user, family member may become verbally or physically aggressive and to support less experienced staff in the management of patients with challenging behaviour.
