Occupational therapy jobs holder says NHS is a gift

A hospital worker who left the UK to take up occupational therapy jobs in Zanzibar has described the NHS as a gift.

Poppy Farrow, 27, formerly of NHS Norfolk, said that although she now regards the African island as her second home, she was initially shocked by the lack of medical resources and the number of disabled children, the Norwich Evening News reports.

"The NHS is an incredible gift," she remarked. "There are very, very few services here and we take ours for granted."

Ms Farrow has now been in the country for 18 months, providing physiotherapy and hand therapy to disabled youngsters and hopes to remain in the area for another half a year, continuing in her work to bring more medical resources such as wheelchairs to the region.

Similarly, occupational therapist Aileen McDaniel recently spent some time in Haiti, assisting in a rehabilitation centre and orphanage, Fife Now reported.
