Physiotherapists will be among the medical professionals working in a new health facility in Chronicle Country.
Work has now begun on the health centre, nine years after plans were put forward by those behind the project.
The development is due to be completed by February 2011, when staff at the Shefford Health Centre will relocate to the premises.
Costing £4 million, the building will house a minor surgery room, as well as physiotherapy facilities and a range of other things.
Commenting on the development mayor of Shefford Paul Mackin said he was "overjoyed".
He added: "At one point it seemed hopes were going to be dashed, but the paperwork was finally completed on November 16th and it got up and running."
The Shefford Health Centre, which has been based in Iveldale Drive since it was built in 1983, employs a number of healthcare professionals, including ten doctors, a number of nurses and a healthcare assistant.
