More carers needed in years to come

The growing need for carers could make it easier to find a physiotherapy job in the years to come.

Figures from the Department of Health indicate that two-thirds of women and half of men are expected to need care in later life in two decades' time.

However, it is not just the elderly who may need attention, as younger individuals could also come into contact with an individual in a physiotherapy job.

Diana Morgan is one person who needed specialist care after an accident resulted in her losing her legs.

She says: "I had never imagined that I would have care and support needs.

"I'm lucky - I have lots of wonderful friends, I do a lot of socialising, I have a great family and I love my work."

Britons are now being called upon to contribute to the Department of Health's Big Care Debate.

This aims to ensure fairer access to care services for all individuals in the UK, where life expectancy has increased to 78 years on average from its level in 1948 of 66 years.
