Physiotherapy body issues obesity warning
Thursday 24th September 2009
A physiotherapy body has issued a warning concerning the health risks posed to today's youngsters as a result of obesity.
According to a new report produced by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), children are not doing enough physical activity and more than a third of them face the prospect of health problems in their adult years as a result.
The CSP's Liz Cavan said: "Physiotherapists are very concerned that as a society we are unknowingly putting children at risk of obesity and the development of life-threatening illnesses because people aren't sufficiently aware of the role and importance of physical activity in preserving good health."
She cited the growth in use of cars, increasingly sedentary leisure activities and the time and financial constraints facing parents as factors contributing the problem.
Established over 100 years ago, the CSP is a member-led organisation directed by an elected council. It campaigns on behalf of physiotherapists and the physiotherapy profession.
