Wednesday 9th September 2009
A range of medical professionals have begun work at a new healthcare centre in Somerset.
Based in Yeovil, the facility was officially opened by local MP David Laws, the BBC reports.
Open for 12 hours a day, the walk-in health centre cost £1 million to establish and provides GP services, as well as diagnostic tests and minor injury care.
Commenting on the development, chief executive of NHS Somerset Ian Tipney, said: "The new health service will provide comprehensive access for primary care services."
Meanwhile, medical director of the centre Dr Paul Scott said that being open from 08:00 to 20:00 BST, as well as at weekends, will mean the facility is a "great help" for existing hospital accident and emergency and GP out of hours services.
Recently, the Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that building work on a new medical centre which will employ physiotherapists is underway.
The spinal injuries unit is located at Pinderfields General Hospital and is being funded with help from a £2.5 million donation from the Stepping Stones Appeal.
