Physiotherapists may be among the medical professionals to begin work at a new spinal injuries facility which is being constructed thanks to a charitable donation.
Building work on the project is underway and the finished gym will be based in a new hospital unit in Wakefield, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.
The spinal injuries unit is located at Pinderfields General Hospital and it is being funded with the assistance of a £2.5 million donation from the Stepping Stones Appeal.
When it is completed, it will have a court area for sports, a gym and IT facilities.
"This new custom-built gym will play a major part in the rehabilitation and care of patients on our new spinal injuries unit," stated medical consultant Firas Jamil.
He added that the design for the facility has been devised via a consultation process involving patients.
Located in Wakefield, Pinderfields General Hospital has recently undergone a series of renovations, including the addition of a purpose-built endoscopy unit.
