Pilot physiotherapy service enters final month
Tuesday 4th August 2009
A pilot physiotherapy service in Scotland has entered its final month.
Entitled Physiotherapy Direct, the initiative is available to people living in Clydesdale, the Hamilton Advertiser reports.
It is a self-referral phone service which is aimed at patients experiencing musculo-skeletal problems.
By using the phone line, individuals can contact a team of physiotherapists directly without having to use their GP first.
Project lead for the scheme Carole Cruickshank commented: "The caller gets advice quickly about sprains and strains, problems with posture, sports injuries or any muscle and joint problems from a specialist physiotherapist."
She added that many people have already benefited from the initiative.
Last month, a team of physiotherapists were among the medical professionals to begin working at a new medical centre in Nairn, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reported.
As well as housing 20 beds and an accident and emergency unit, the facility has physiotherapy gyms and a physiotherapy department.
