A new physiotherapy services was recently launched by an NHS trust.
According to reports in the Hamilton Advertiser, the scheme - which is entitled Direct Access to Physiotherapy - was kicked off with an event attended by members of the Carnwath Bowling Club.
The initiative is being run by NHS Lanarkshire and it provides a self-referral telephone service for patients.
Commenting on the idea, Carole Cruickshank, project leader for Direct Access to Physiotherapy, said: "Calls will be answered by a dedicated team who will provide a telephone consultation regarding the presenting condition. The caller will then be advised on the best way to manage their problem."
Meanwhile, Senga Cree, head and professional leader of NHS Lanarkshire Physiotherapy Services, added that information from the direct access trial will enable the organisation to develop and design future musculo-skeletal physiotherapy services.
NHS Lanarkshire runs a number of medical centres, including Wishaw General Hospital and Monklands Hospital.
