Money required to fund physiotherapist at new MS centre
Thursday 7th May 2009
A range of medical professionals, including a physiotherapist, are to work in a new centre designed to treat people with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Funded by public money, the facilities were developed by refurbishing existing MS laboratories in Frenchay Hospital, which is run by North Bristol NHS Trust.
Following a £250,000 appeal, the centre will provide treatment and a dedicated service for sufferers of the condition, which causes damage to the central nervous system.
However, additional money needs to be raised in order to fund an MS physiotherapist, a neuropsychologist and a full-time research manager to help to manage clinical trials which are ongoing at the centre.
In total, an extra £80,000 now needs to be raised for this purpose.
Fundraising manager Shaun McCarthy said: "As someone who has MS, I am so pleased to have been able to open this much-needed centre and I'd like to say a big thank you to all that help us achieve this."
