Physiotherapy services extended in Northumbria
Thursday 16th April 2009
Physiotherapy services in a Northumbria hospital have been extended for patients.
People requiring such services at Wansbeck General Hospital are now able to access treatment seven days a week, the New Post Leader reports.
Physiotherapists are now available to outpatients from 08:00 GMT until 19:00 GMT on weekdays and services also operate at weekends and bank holidays.
According to officials at the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, the changes have been implemented in order to give outpatients greater choice concerning appointment times.
Head of physiotherapy services at the trust Cath Carr said: "This is a major service change and we are probably one of the first trusts in the country to move our whole service to seven days."
She added that it will bring "immense benefits" to patients by ensuring they reach their agreed goals earlier.
Located on the outskirts of Ashington, Wansbeck General Hospital was established in 1993 and employs around 2,000 staff.
