Physiotherapists use console to help stroke patients

A team of physiotherapists at a UK medical centre have been using a games console to assist the recovery of stroke patients.
The medical professionals, who are based at Birmingham's City Hospital, are providing such patients with therapy which incorporates using the Nintendo Wii, the expressandstar.com reports.
Among the activities patients have been involved in using the console are tennis, bowling and boxing.
Physiotherapist Lydia Jones said: "The patients have all been loving it. It has really helped people learn to balance and because they can see their scores, they watch them get better after every session."
As well as being a fun activity, the console is a "real motivator", she added.
Meanwhile, stroke patient and former builder Alan Perkins described the treatment as "brilliant".
City Hospital is run by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, which provides healthcare services to a population of around 500,000 to 600,000 and employs around 6,000 workers.
