Construction of new hospital begins in Wales
Monday 19th January 2009
Construction of a new hospital in Wales has commenced, people seeking medical jobs may be interested to discover.
Described as the largest medical centre of its kind to be built in the country in 30 years, the facility will be located in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly.
The Welsh assembly government is providing more than £170 million towards the costs of the project.
With 255 beds, the hospital is expected to be completed by autumn 2011.
First minister Rhodri Morgan said: "This hospital is, we believe, the first truly twenty-first century hospital to be built in Wales.
"What that means is that, very broadly, it has fewer inpatient beds and more outpatient facilities that you would expect in a twentieth century hospital of equivalent size."
Recently, it was revealed that proposals for a new health centre in East Lothian were given the go-ahead, Hospital Development reported.
The facility will cost £21 million and will provide a number of services, including podiatry and physiotherapy.
