Physiotherapy staff praised by patient
Tuesday 2nd December 2008
A number of people with physiotherapy jobs have been praised by a man who successfully returned to active life following a double amputation.
Michael Simpson had to have his legs removed below the knees last year after he was diagnosed with vasculitis, a condition which is characterised by the inflammatory destruction of both veins and arteries.
The 23-year-old had the operation and subsequent treatment at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reports.
He said that he would not have recovered his former lifestyle without the assistance of workers at the medical centre.
Mr Simpson stated: "The Ninewells physiotherapy staff were great and gave me the inspiration I needed to get up and about as prosthetic legs need to be continually kept moving or your muscles stiffen."
Since leaving the hospital in March, he has raised over £4,000 for the physiotherapy department and recently presented employees at the centre with the cheque.
